Michael Breit Speaks to Bloomberg Advantage on the Business of Sports: Amateurism and the Final Four

Michael Breit, partner in charge of EisnerAmper's Sports and Entertainment practice, was a guest on Bloomberg Advantage appearing on the eve of the much anticipated Villanova vs. North Carolina NCAA Men's Basketball Final. Using that event as a backdrop, Michael spoke to the presence and impact of money in the world of collegiate athletics, the revenues generated and the sums paid to the major conferences and shared by teams, and how that has shaped amateurism - and whether the amateurism model is sustainable.
His comments then centered on the O'Bannon case - believing it may be headed for the Supreme Court - and the underlying theme of whether college athletes should be paid for the use of their likeness when items are sold or licensed, or paid in the form of a stipend. Michael's view was that given the scope of the dollars involved, and the recognition that the line between amateurism and professionalism is increasingly blurred, that some sort of monetary arrangement for athletes is inevitable.
