Shared Values of Personalization and Precision Lead to Medical Practice Growth

Share

How EisnerAmper helped a physician stand up his own healthcare practice and grow in order to advance its holistic mission.

Client

Lutanen Health, a family-owned and physician-led concierge medical practice in Boston, Massachusetts, was founded in 2024 on the philosophy that medicine should feel purposeful, connected, and deeply personalized. As the practice describes its approach, it blends the precision of modern medicine with the benefits of holistic, relationship-based care.

When a patient arrives at Lutanen, they will quickly discover their health is not being viewed as just numbers on a chart. From advanced diagnostics and biometrics, to metabolic optimization, to precision preventative care and mind-body integration, Lutanen’s intentionally small team aims to honor both the art and the science of healing, redefining healthcare for patients of all ages and backgrounds. Managing fewer patients (fewer than 150 per physician) enables longer, more personalized visits. A membership model that includes 24/7 physician access, same-day appointments, advanced diagnostic testing, and personal care plans supports a patient-first experience.

There are concierge practices and there are longevity practices, but combining the longevity approach and the integrative health approach within primary care and having that be the backbone, I don’t think anyone else is really doing that.

Challenge

Dr. Luthar and his wife, Sara, who serves as director of business operations, had a clear vision of the type of practice they wanted to build and grow. But, as Dr. Luthar notes, while the practice of medicine is one thing, running a business is quite another. Innovation brings additional challenges.

Taxes, accounting, financial modeling, and overall launch strategy were all areas Dr. Luthar needed help. Making the business side more complex is the fact that the practice operates on a two-entity Management Services Organization (MSO) model, which is increasingly common among healthcare groups in Massachusetts (the MSO model essentially splits a healthcare practice into two entities, a clinical business and an administrative company, to comply with state laws).

For a physician without a deep financial background, several tasks and high-stakes decisions proved to be particularly daunting:

  • Construction financing – Securing a loan to do a construction build-out required certain financial projections and modeling, developing a prospectus proforma, and providing the various documents required by a bank.
  • Building a business support network – Determining how to allocate resources tax-efficiently, identifying the network of consultants needed to move forward: from insurance, to financial management, to legal advice.
  • Operational setup – From entity structuring, to securing the Athena EMR platform and pricing, to branding, naming, and vendor setup.

Launching a new practice can be stressful, as there’s only one chance to make a first impression. As the practice owner, especially if you’re on your own or have a small team, you can’t afford any missteps along the way.

I wanted to build something where the physician can partner with a smaller number of patients in a traditional medical practice and bring in some of the newest research, science and technology into advanced screening, early detection and health optimization and also an evidence-based approach to longevity science.

Beyond Advisory

The Approach

What started as an advisory engagement eventually expanded to much more. Our team collaborated with Lutanen from the pre-launch phase, through opening its doors to patients and beyond.

According to Dr. Luthar, one of the main benefits of being able to consolidate the many critical components of launching, sustaining, and growing a new practice with one firm was the time savings that allowed him and his team to focus on what mattered most: their patients. Work included:

Initial financial modeling to test short- and long-term financial feasibility Connecting Lutanen to various vendors (bankers, lawyers, insurance brokers, etc.)

Managing both business and individual taxes

Bookkeeping and accounting, accounts payable/receivable, HR/payroll management, employee 401(k) planning, personal financial management, ongoing advisory, and more.

EisnerAmper is always there for whatever we need. They’ve been the central hub for us. And then we decided, ‘you’re doing such a great job for us, why don’t you do our payroll, too?’ We just brought on the Prosperity team to help us with our personal finances. They’re just an extension of the team.

Results

Since its successful launch, Lutanen has added a second nurse, a second physician, a physical therapist, an athletic trainer and more! In just six months of 2026, Lutanen had already doubled its revenue from all of 2025. The original practice, which has grown to nearly a dozen employees, has become a valued part of the community it serves. And there’s more expansion on the horizon in the form of 1-2 potential new satellite locations, and unique partnerships with frontier biotech companies bringing real longevity science to Boston patients.

EisnerAmper continues to meet frequently with Dr. Luthar on growth trajectory, hiring strategy, marketing, as well as working capital and lines of credit. Lutanen treats the firm as its “back office.”

As these growth stages are occurring, when I have ideas, I call up EisnerAmper. And I say, ‘hey, can you help me crunch some numbers, what do you think about this?’ We’re a small practice but it feels like we have the resources of a big corporation, with a CFO-level advisor helping us.

Launching or growing medical practices involves complex financial, operational, and vendor decisions. EisnerAmper works with healthcare organizations to build the infrastructure they need.

I have one or two point people, and they’re all talking to each other, integrated in the background. There’s less room for errors because there’s a central group that knows us. EisnerAmper isn’t a small company, but the team there is like working with a boutique firm. They want us to grow, and they’re invested in our growth. We’re growing together. It’s been so wonderful working with everyone.
