EisnerAmper’ s Trends Watch is a weekly entry to our Alternative Investments Intelligence blog, featuring the views and insights of executives from alternative investment firms. If you’re interested in being featured, please contact Elana Margulies-Snyderman.

This week, Elana talks with Guy Cohen, Founder, Montal Capital.

What is your outlook for long/short investing?

The equities markets look set for further volatility and uncertainty in the short term so long/short strategies will still have a place in portfolios where some exposure with uncorrelated returns is required.  Also, with interest rates likely to peak and retrace, high performing market neutral strategies which are suitable for leverage will be increasingly attractive.

Where do you see the greatest opportunities and why?

Over the long term, the greatest opportunities will still be in the U.S. technology sector. The U.S. is the most innovative economy in the world, and always finds a way to reinvent itself. In the short term, the technology sector will continue to be inconsistent while cyclical stocks will be steadier.

What are the greatest challenges you face and why?

Raising capital as a relative newcomer to the institutional world. Scaling a fintech enterprise while bootstrapping it.

What keeps you up at night?

  1. My young children who like to torment their parents! 2. Brainstorming new innovations as I am in both fintech and asset management, which both share specific intellectual property I have developed. 3. A new book that I am drafting, that will be rather controversial and disruptive to the retail trading industry.

The views and opinions expressed above are of the interviewee only, and do not/are not intended to reflect the views of EisnerAmper.
