EisnerAmper’s Trends Watch is a weekly entry to our Alternative Investments Intelligence blog, featuring the views and insights of executives from alternative investment firms. If you’re interested in being featured, please contact Elana Margulies-Snyderman.
This week, Elana talks with Yaron Carni, Founder, Maverick Ventures Israel.
What is your outlook for VC investing in tech?
I believe that investors and entrepreneurs have a symbiotic relationship. The VC not only provides the company funding but tells the entrepreneurs that “we’ve got your back and we believe in you.” At the end of the day though, it's important that investors stay humble as the success of the company is way over 95% the founding team and/or the leadership in place.
What are the greatest opportunities you see and why?
I have been a big fan of enterprise software as well as fintech. In the past years, I've become a big believer in agriculture and food tech because I think that food is and will become more prevalent in the future. More than anything though, I believe in people. We invest in them before we invest in any field. Companies pivot, realities change. People stay the same.
What are the greatest challenges you face and why?
In my field, you basically bet on people. And people can be unpredictable.
What keeps you up at night?
My 2-year-old son.
