New Evaluation and Management coding guidelines effective January 1, 2021 present a steep learning curve and challenging consequences.

The major goal of these changes is to better align medical record documentation and coding to simplify the administrative burden on providers and other practices. Proper implementation will be critically important not only for billing success but for avoiding audit.

EisnerAmper’s Health Care Services Group has developed a special service offering called E/M Assess to help single- and multi-specialty physician practices and hospitals see how their current coding and documentation support the new guidelines.

E/M Assess provides physician practices with an overview evaluation of how well their E/M documentation supports the E/M codes under the new MDM and time-based requirements for 2021 and a basic overview video training. It includes:

  • Initial discussion with lead physician or practice manager regarding coding concerns within the practice to focus our efforts on your individual needs.
  • Review of ten medical record dates of service, focusing on E/M 2021 coding issues as well as your identified concerns.
  • Session to review findings and recommendations.
  • A formal remote education session on new coding guidelines, as well as some targeted areas based on the limited coding review.

E/M Assess can help your practice start off on the right foot with the new coding guidelines.
