Robert T. Tighe

Robert T. Tighe is the Partner-in-Charge of the Firm’s Chicago Northwest office. With more than 25 years of experience in the industry Bob brings deep expertise in accounting, general business planning and tax consulting for middle-market and closely held businesses and high-net-worth individuals. However, he primarily specializes in providing services related to tax and business structuring and compliance, succession planning, mergers & acquisitions and predominantly serves non-profit, construction and manufacturing and distribution industries. 

With extensive knowledge of tax planning and streamlining accounting processes, Bob has consistently helped clients reduce their tax liabilities by structuring new tax entities and handling a wide range of complex tax filings, including C corporations, S corporations, partnerships, trusts, non-profits, and individual returns. Bob has also served as an internal CFO/Controller for numerous clients, leveraging his in-depth knowledge of accounting systems like QuickBooks and his skill in growing companies. His hands-on approach has empowered many businesses to streamline their internal accounting processes, enabling them to manage most financial functions in-house with confidence. 

Bob has also been involved in numerous business valuations throughout his career. He believes that understanding a company’s valuation gives owners deeper insight into their business, often revealing opportunities to increase profitability. This knowledge is also invaluable when planning for succession, helping business owners make informed decisions about the future of their company.

Prior to joining the firm, Bob was the Managing Principal and co-founding partner of Tighe, Kress & Orr (TKO), a Chicagoland-based firm, from 2007 to 2024. During Bob’s time leading TKO, he focused on mentoring, growing, and providing opportunities for the team and providing exceptional service and value to the Firm’s clients.  This coupled with strategic vision and amazing employees, partners and clients, helped TKO grow from a four-person firm to a roughly 100-person firm that included roughly 30 team members in the Philippines.

Bob is actively involved in his community, using his expertise in non-profit accounting and auditing to support multiple local youth, religious and patriotic organizations, where he serves on multiple boards. In these roles, and in previous ones, he has played a key part in managing the financial decisions of multi-million-dollar organizations, offering guidance on budgeting and long-term planning. Furthermore, Bob has taught the MBA Financial Accounting course at Concordia University Chicago, the MSA Taxation course at Dominican University, and is a former member of the Illinois CPA Societies Governmental Report Review Board. Bob was an officer in the Army reserves for close to 10 years and has served in Iraq, where he received the Bronze Star medal and a Combat Action Badge.
