Michael DiRende

Michael DiRende is an Advisory Managing Director and Practice Leader/Chief Operating Officer with Sherwood, an EisnerAmper Company, bringing more than 25 years of experience advising organizations through complex restructuring, finance, and special situations. He works closely with management teams, boards, investors, and other stakeholders to address financial distress, restructure obligations, preserve enterprise value, and navigate critical business transitions.

 

Michael has served in a range of interim financial and operational leadership roles, including Chief Restructuring Officer for a leading insurtech and insurance carrier and Chief Surveillance Officer for a publicly traded insurance company. In these roles, he managed complex restructuring and risk matters, including oversight of a $50 billion portfolio focused on structured finance insurance risks. He also served as lead strategist and negotiator during the financial crisis, helping drive recovery efforts that restored more than $4 billion in value.

 

Michael advises clients on special situations, mergers and acquisitions, debt restructuring, and complex transaction matters. Over the course of his career, he has been involved in restructuring more than $75 billion of debt across sectors, including insurance, brokerage, manufacturing, structured finance, municipal finance, and automotive.

 

Prior to joining the firm through the combination with Sherwood Partners, Michael held senior leadership roles with nationally recognized restructuring and business advisory firms, a global accounting firm, and publicly traded insurance companies, where he advised clients on restructuring, corporate finance, and complex insurance risk matters.
