EisnerAmper’s Trends Watch is a weekly entry to our Alternative Investments Intelligence blog, featuring the views and insights of executives from alternative investment firms. If you’re interested in being featured, please contact Elana Margulies-Snyderman.
This week, Elana talks with Robert Topping, Founder, Topping Capital.
What is your outlook for alternatives?
World markets and equities are becoming more highly correlated and the velocity in markets is ever increasing. Never before have we had such active intervention by central banks in trying to manage economic outcome and inflation bands. All of that bodes well for a continued growing interest in alternatives as an allocation space independent of economic and market outcome. That thesis and easier access to alternatives means more growth ahead for the category and a continued higher percentage allocation in wealth management client portfolios.
What is your outlook for the economy?
Only Chance the Gardner would have a good understanding of "outlook for the economy." Humor aside, we have gone from The Great Recession to The Great Experiment. Like a ship, in a world of $250 trillion of debt, small changes in course can lead to drastic differences in the destination upon which we arrive.
What keeps you up at night?
The challenges and wonders of small business are usually what keep me awake at night though more and more often that is being replaced by the largess of opportunity in a world of ever increasing velocity, rapid disruption to multitudes of industries, and convergence of public and private markets.
