Max Markel is a Senior Tax Manager in the International Tax Group with over 15 years of U.S. international tax experience advising clients on cross-border transactions, tax planning opportunities and U.S. international tax compliance, provision, and consulting matters. He oversees all aspects of his clients’ international tax needs.
Max’s expertise includes inbound and outbound tax compliance and provision services, mergers and acquisitions due diligence, entity formation, and withholding tax issues. He works with multinational firms, closely held companies and private equity firms in a variety of industries including manufacturing, entertainment, real estate, life sciences, digital media and advertising based in the U.S. and abroad.
Additionally, Max is a subject matter expert in the residence and income sourcing rules related to Puerto Rico. He advises U.S. clients who are interested in becoming legal residents of Puerto Rico. He works closely with Puerto Rico tax advisors to assist clients navigate the path of qualifying for the Puerto Rico Act 60 exemptions.
Prior to joining the firm, Max was an International Tax Manager with a national accounting firm. He also spent time as a Tax Manager within the New York International Tax Services practice at a Big 4 accounting firm and worked with both public and private clients in the industries noted above.
