Scotty Amos is a Partner in the firm's Tax Services Group. With 25 years of experience, Scotty serves the needs of multi-state taxpayers, specializing in the areas of multi-state tax and regulatory compliance, planning, and client advocacy for the firm's diverse clientele.

Scotty's primary focus is Federal and multi-state tax sales and transactions tax and regulatory surcharge planning. He has a deep understanding of the intricacies involved in the compliance for communications and adeptly handles the complexities surrounding communications and cloud service providers expertly navigating the landscape of FCC and USAC compliance (including Forms 499A/499Q, CPNI, Form 498), gross receipts, excise, e911, 988, PUC surcharges, and more. He's also highly skilled in making critical nexus determinations, managing audits, mitigating tax liabilities, and providing comprehensive assessments of Federal, state, and local tax and surcharge applicability to cloud services, wireline and wireless telephone services, VoIP, private line, and bundled service offerings.

Scotty supports clients with the development, implementation, and integration of billing and tax collection and reporting systems (Vertex CommTax, Vertex O Series, AvaTax, Avalara for Communications (AFC), SureTax, and OneSource), and related processes and procedures. He also has significant experience in the design and implementation of complex strategic restructuring solutions, including the implementation and “optimization” of existing procurement solutions and asset acquisition strategies (along with the proper accounting and reporting), and the identification and documentation of sales and transactions tax overpayments through tax refund, credit, and exemption analysis.

Prior to joining the firm, Scotty was a Director at Postlethwaite & Netterville (P&N), a leading full-service accounting and business advisory firm. Before this, he was a National Practice Leader in a Big 4 firm's national communications tax practice. His primary responsibilities included developing and implementing multi-state tax planning solutions and reducing tax exposure – income/franchise, sales and transactions, and property taxes. He was also instrumental in the firm's Sarbanes-Oxley policy development, documentation, and related internal control testing procedures and best practices from the internal and external auditor's perspectives. During his time there, Scotty won multiple innovation awards for creative new ideas and tax solutions.
