Ira Spiegel is a Director in the Bankruptcy and Restructuring Group. With more than 20 years of experience in forensic accounting and examinations, bankruptcy and litigation support, following his 15 years in private industry and 6 years as an auditor, Ira brings a wide range of experience and expertise to each engagement. Ira's hands-on experience, insight and expertise in coordinating, supervising, and performing accounting and investigative functions has proven to be a valuable asset in cases under Chapter 11 and Chapter 7 of the Bankruptcy Code, in receiverships and for trusts.
As a reflection of the value Ira brings to a case, the judge in a professional athlete’s significant personal Chapter 11 proceeding made it a condition of and part of the confirmation order that the debtor continue to retain Ira as his financial adviser for at least the first two years under the Plan of Reorganization. Ira continues to work with the athlete as he seeks to assist others in a similar capacity and is an NFLPA Registered Player Financial Advisor.
Ira works closely with in-house staff when retained by Chapter 11 debtors, both in assisting in the restructuring of operations and in allowing them to focus on operations by relieving them of the handling of numerous bankruptcy requirements and events. He monitors, analyzes and reports on operations when retained by creditors’ committees and assists in maximizing their return under the Plan of Reorganization. In multiple cases, the debtor and the committee agreed to utilize Ira jointly as the sole accountant in the case.
When retained by a Chapter 7 trustee, Ira has a strong track record for identifying recoverable assets, assisting in their recovery and then assisting in the administration of and distributions to creditors of the estate.
Ira has testified and/or been deposed as a fact and expert witness in federal criminal and bankruptcy cases, as well as civil cases in state court. He has also been a panel speaker and guest lecturer.
