Course Description: Learn about cutting-edge estate planning techniques and how the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act has impacted trusts and estates
Learning Outcomes: Participants will be able to:
- Explain recent developments in 2018 including the impact of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act on estate planning
- Explore the relevant developments in trust, tax and privacy law from outside the U.S. and discuss practical planning considerations and strategies for U.S. persons who own or intend to own assets located outside the U.S.
- Understand the steps of unwinding common transactions that have utilized life insurance policies, by addressing the unique issues that can arise when a policy is part of the transaction. Focus on how to unwind a split-dollar arrangement, an insurance trust arrangement, and a buy-sell arrangement
- Gain insights on some of the issues facing today’s redefined and evolving families. Topics include estate planning implications of changing family structures, planning for parents of minors, the impact of assisted reproductive technology on estate planning and how to manage difficult beneficiaries
