Nicholas Tsafos, Financial Services Growth Leader and Chair of EisnerAmper Global, joined Rishaad Salamat and Doug Krizner on Bloomberg’s Daybreak Asia radio program. The group covered a wide range of topics beginning with the main concerns Nick is hearing from clients. His answer: geopolitics. The worry is that protectionism and trade wars will not only restrict the free flow of capital, but this could spur rising interest rates and higher consumer prices. On the positive side, this has led to opportunities for investment in developing countries in Southeast Asia, while tax reform in the U.S. has led to a 55-year low in unemployment.
Nick also sees a fully valued market. And while investors are taking a cautious approach, there are opportunities in debt markets, health care and the energy sector. One asset class worth keeping an eye on is real estate, particularly with respect to family offices that are looking for tax-incentives in both commercial and residential real estate.
The program closed with a discussion on private equity opportunities. While valuations are still holding up, caution remains, particularly on the heels of addition scrutiny surrounding IPOs such as WeWork.
