Webinar: Eggshell or Sensitive Audits

Have you ever been hired to represent a client in an IRS audit only to find out that they might be guilty of fraud? How can you protect yourself if you know the client is hiding something, or worse, has just admitted guilt right to your face? How can you still represent the client without getting into trouble yourself? Luckily, there’s a process that you can learn and follow for when you find yourself in this uncomfortable situation. This type of audit is called an eggshell audit, and you really do need to learn how to walk on eggshells to handle it properly. The program will cover various arrangements and privileges, the role of the Kovel Accountant, handling the IRS examiner, and what the options are to help prevent the client from going to prison.

Course Objective: Learn the proper steps a tax preparer should take when they have been engaged to prepare a tax return or to represent a taxpayer where fraud may be present.

  • Identify the potential affirmative acts of fraud by a taxpayer
  • Describe the role of the Kovel accountant
  • Explain the various issues and strategies in preparing for an audit that might go criminal
