Strategic Roadmap: Strategies and Measures
What are strategies and measures? It's important to understand what the game plan is and how you would accomplish the goals and objectives that you set. It's critical when putting your strategies together to outline what are your deliverables and how you can measure success. There are three major strategies that an organization should concentrate on. The first one is business development the second one is operating efficiency in the third and final one is developing your people and bench strength.
Matt Kerzner:It's very important that employees understand the strategy of the organization. There are three major pillars that can help the strategy of an organization. The first pillar is business development. How do we grow the business? How do we increase revenue? How do we maximize our profits?
The second pillar is operating efficiently. This is how we do things
better, faster and more efficiently. But if we don't think smart on how to reduce overhead, we could lose it in another area. The third pillar is people development. It's actually starting with finding the right talent, developing the right talent and building all the core competencies to help them succeed within the organization. Another part of people is succession planning. It's having the right people in the right place. And I'm not just talking about the executives. It's all the key positions within the organization.If anyone leaves, who do you have ready today, tomorrow, and, in the distant future? People development is key.
Once you developed your mission, vision, values, goals and objectives it will be important that each employee developed their own individual actions to help the organization move in the desired direction.
When looking at initiatives and projects it's very important to understand what is in scope and out of scope of the project and to identify all the resources that are needed to make this initiative successful.
It is very important for the organization to really think through the objectives and goals that they would like to accomplish. The SMART model should be implemented to help develop those goals - specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and timeframe
The vision for an organization is what we want to be when we grow up. It's a very strategic statement that will let the employees know that this is the direction of the organization and what we want to be one year three years and five years from now.
Core values are what an organization believes in. When an organization puts core values together it can help all employees understand what they need to believe in to all be working in the same direction.
Does your organization have a mission statement? It is very important for an organization to understand why they exist and if all the employees understand what are the activities that are most they will truly understand why the organization exists.
