Michael Sandnes is a Director in the Financial Advisory Services Group, with over 25 years of expertise in the health care industry. He specializes in working with healthy and distressed for-profit, nonprofit, private equity firms and business organizations.
Michael draws significant experience and talent from a turnaround management perspective, performance improvement and proven solutions to client assignments. He has worked with many organizations and board of directors leading initiatives such as organizational restructuring, corporate compliance and integrity agreements, governance, and operational and strategic leadership roles and rollouts.
Michael’s experience spans a variety functions and he has a proven track record while working on restructuring, operational assessments, and downsizing, including corporation compliance where he served as a health care System Chief Operating Officer contracted to turnaround $120 million operating loss for 5 acute care hospitals. He also served as a court appointed Chief Restructuring Officer for a regional community hospital in New Mexico where he performed financial and operational strategic restructuring services while successfully positioning the hospital and physician management organization for Chapter 11 filing.
Additionally, Michael served as a court appointed Chief Restructuring Officer/CEO, a receivership role for a $1.2 billion nursing home company, and an advisor to physician-owned ambulatory care centers. He was an advisor to physician-owned ambulatory care centers and conducted operational assessments for three centers. Michael recently testified (or appeared) as an expert for a health care system in Texas, with successful outcome (case against major insurance companies worth millions of dollars for claim denial).
