Matt Brown is a Tax Partner in the Private Client Services Group (PCS). With a wealth of accounting, legal, and real estate experience, he provides business advisory and tax planning services for his clients. Matt focuses on leading client engagements for individuals, privately held businesses, trusts, and estates. He advises on a wide array of tax matters including business start-up solutions, compensation structures, succession planning, wealth preservation strategies, and tax controversy work.

Additionally, Matt understands the issues and family dynamics of business transitions and uses his expertise to make it easier on all involved. His ability to understand closely held businesses and their owners has made Matt a strong resource and advisor for businesses that are in transition from one generation to the next. Following the introduction of the Cares Act, Matt’s understanding and strategic execution enabled his clients to be some of the first businesses in Minnesota to benefit from Paycheck Protection Program loans. He worked alongside clients to help their businesses thrive during these unprecedented challenges.

Prior to joining the firm, Matt was the leader of the Tax Services Group at Lurie LLP, a Minneapolis-based accounting and advisory firm, which provided clients with solutions in accounting, audit, tax planning and wealth management, serving business leaders in a wide variety of industries including health care, professional services, technology, manufacturing, real estate and more. Matt began his career at Lurie.

Matt was a Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal 40 under 40 honoree for 2022. He has been recognized by several organizations for his professional and personal contributions to the Minneapolis business and local community, including serving on the Board of Directors for Minnesota Children’s Museum since 2019. He is currently the Chair of the Finance Committee and serves as the Board Treasurer. Additionally, Matt was a founding member of the PlayMakers group, an invaluable organization associated with the Museum that is committed to raising funds, supporting local families with early childhood development needs, and to Museum advocacy.
