Job Description:

The Director of Accounting is responsible for leading the company's accounting, treasury, and financial reporting functions. This leader is responsibility for the following aspects of a 14 member team:

  • Special Projects

Key Responsibilities:

Oversees daily accounting procedures, identifies and addresses current and potential accounting and disclosure issues and concerns, recommends and develops appropriate policies, and establish internal controls to safeguard and grow the assets. Includes preparation of monthly financial reports, payroll and other routine finance, budgets, and accounting functions.

    • Ensure accuracy of financial statements
    • Identify and address current and potential accounting and disclosure issues
    • Ensure all required Berkshire reports are filed on a timely basis
    • Monitor and implement new accounting pronouncements, monitor industry trends
    • Oversee and conduct accounting research on specific issues
    • Produce monthly internal reporting packages and lead internal financial reviews
    • Document and implement all accounting policies
  • Internal Controls
    • Ensure relevant business risks related to financial reporting, cost accounting, sales and marketing, and treasury operations are identified and addressed
    • Develop and maintain policies and procedures
    • Review significant contracts for financial statement implications, competitive bids and required terms and conditions.
  • Process Improvement
    • Establish and manage key performance metrics
    • Identify and implement best practices
    • Undertake projects to shorten closing cycles, reduce errors, and improve customer service levels
    • Produce value-added analyses

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting and 8-12 years' accounting experience. Big 4 plus public company financial reporting experience preferred.
  • CPA, CMA and/or MBA.
  • Strong technical US GAAP accounting knowledge, including revenue recognition and lease accounting
  • Knowledge of best practices in internal controls and financial reporting
  • Must be highly analytical and inquisitive with strong organizational abilities, keen attention to detail, and ability to meet monthly deadlines and goals
  • Strong working knowledge Microsoft Office; proficient in Excel, Access, and Word
  • Knowledge of SAP, BPC and Business Objects a plus
  • Excellent organizational, managerial, interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other functional areas in a team-based, continuous improvement environment
  • Strong business acumen and ability to interpret and explain financial results and trends
  • Strong sense of customer service, continuous improvement, drive for results. Must be metrics driven. Leader versus Manager
  • Expected travel up to 5% in US and Canada. Weekend work as needed
  • Possesses strong leadership capability who is able to develop staff members, motivate teams, collaborate across departments and works well with senior leadership.
  • Upholds a high degree of professionalism, integrity and ethical standards.
