Job Descrpition:

The Controller will report to the CFO and is responsible for the development and execution of day to day accounting processes, the maintenance of an effective internal control environment and the production of financial statements and other key reports for management.

Summary of Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop procedures for and conduct monthly financial close
    • Transition Monthly Close from outside accountants to internal process
    • Establish internal SOP’s for monthly close
    • Prepare and post Journal Entries
    • Reconcile G/L to A/R, A/P and Inventory sub-ledgers
    • Prepare bank reconciliations
    • Generate Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Cash flow
  • Supervise Credit & Collections function
    • Credit Limit review and recommendations
    • A/R aging review and past due follow-up
  • Supervise Accounts Payable function
    • Payment processing and check generation
    • Initiate wire transfers
  • Prepare and submit bi-weekly payroll to ADP
  • Prepare monthly & quarterly VAT documentation
    • Liaise with Third Party administrator
  • Prepare and file Sales & Use Tax reports
  • Maintain Sage X3 accounting systems to ensure proper, complete and accurate record-keeping of company transactions in accordance with GAAP.
  • Maintain daily cash receipts and disbursements journal
  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities
  • Liaise with Operations on credit, freight, duties, and inventory.
  • Identify, implement and document process improvements/automation across the finance function
  • Create, update and maintain SOP’s for all key finance functions
  • Design, implement and maintain a Travel Expense tracking system
  • Ensure compliance with required external and internal controls
  • Prepare quarterly reporting packages for external lenders and prepare covenant analysis
  • Assist in making key business decisions by providing special analysis
  • Identify metrics and design specific reporting to senior management
  • Liaise with outside Audit firm on year-end audit, tax provisions and tax returns.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field such as finance
  • 7-10 years of full-time accounting experience preferably with the last positon being Assistant Controller or Controller
  • Strong management and leadership skills
  • Ability to explain complex financial data in clear, straightforward language
  • Deep knowledge of accounting software (Sage X3 a plus but not required)
  • Experience with ERP upgrades/replacements
  • Excellent excel skills
  • Strong ability to create systems for operational efficiency
  • Handle pressure well, especially when preparing quarterly and annual reports
  • Innate sense of integrity and ethics
  • Experience in a small to medium sized business a plus
  • CPA and or Master’s Degree a plus
