Job Description:

The Senior Accountant be responsible for taking ownership of key accounting and reporting processes within the HPN Finance Team. The incumbent will be a part of a team which supports all of the finance and accounting needs of HPN, its social enterprises and affiliated companies. We are seeking candidates with strong leadership, communications, and interpersonal skills, ability to maintain confidentiality, personal integrity, and commitment. The incumbent should be able to work well under pressure in a high paced work environment. Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles, internal controls, and financial analysis as well as tax returns. Highly Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel); be highly organized with the ability to follow instructions precisely; can work discreetly and independently and with a professional demeanor. The Senior Staff Accountant will report to the Controller.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements
  • Participate in year-end audit process review and follow up on any prior year management letter findings or recommendations and provide support during both internal, external audits and tax returns
  • Work with other finance and accounting staff member to ensure accuracy in all area of functions of accounts payable, accounts receivables, timesheets, credit cards, fixed assets, daily cash functions and prepaid
  • Maintain supporting documentation and work papers for financial reporting deliverables
  • Prepare financial covenant compliance reporting for review
  • Work with external auditor and controller on IRS 990 preparation and completion
  • Contribute to
    • Developing and maintaining procedures for all accounting processes
    • Documenting accounting policy
    • Selection and implementation of accounting and financial systems
    • Reviewing Management (CSA) Agreement for billing purposes
    • Reviewing Grants Agreement and recording per GAAP rules (restricted, unrestricted, conditional)
  • Assist with the Social Enterprises finance and accounting needs
  • Participate in cross-functional project teams to support system implementations, upgrades, process improvement initiatives or acquisitions, as required
  • Review contracts and Lease Agreements
  • Setting up new users on GL, and workflow requisition systems
  • Support team members and serve as functional backup when necessary
  • Assist in providing data for corporate filings
  • Participate in annual budget process
  • Assist with Payroll as needed
  • Assist Controller and CFO with special projects, as requested
  • Help train junior Accounting staff
  • Ad hoc tasks & projects as required


  • College degree, Master preferred in accounting or finance , CPA preferred
  • 3-5 years' experience with a financial services firm or in the accounting department of an non- profit organization
  • Detail Oriented
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects while working with deadlines
  • Data analysis, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • The ability to work independently and take ownership of his/her work coupled with the ability to work on a team and contribute to that team
  • High rate of interaction with internal customers and senior management requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to keep confidential highly sensitive company plans and data
  • Familiarity and knowledge of Abila and Microix preferred


  • Some travel may be required
