Job Description:

The Controller supports the financial objectives of the company by recording, classifying, and calculating all financial transactions, as well as ensures regulatory compliance and tracking of all regulated inventory items to prevent diversion and maximize operational efficiency. Staff training, developing standard operating procedures, and adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or other professional bookkeeping standards are primary duties of this role.

This position is salaried exempt. The Controller reports to the Chief Financial Officer.  

Requirements and Responsibilities:

  • Manages accounts  payables,  accounts  receivables,  and  all  daily  financial  transactions  within  the company
  • Coordinates with Human Resources Director to administer payroll
  • Verifies the mathematical accuracy of calculations performed by other staff members, such as the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager for cash deposits and other transactions
  • Records, stores, and analyzes financial data using business management platforms
  • Works with CFO to prepare financial statements, records, and reports of financial, statistical, accounting, and auditing data
  • Ensure dispensary staff adhere to cash handling policies and regulations
  • Creates purchase orders and tracks payments for approved expenditures
  • Assists third-party Accountant and CFO with corporate income tax compliance, including preparation of tax returns
  • Manages employee expense program, including expense budgets, purchase tools, and policies
  • Audits financial data for accuracy and reports errors or discrepancies to the CFO
  • Ensures accuracy of all invoices and timely accounts payable and receivable
  • Maintains accurate financial data in the inventory tracking system and business management platforms in compliance with all applicable regulations
  • Monitors inventory levels and sales data of regulated products to ensure an uninterrupted supply
  • Coordinates with CFO and Dispensary  Managers  to forecast  sales,  analyze sales  data,  and adjust inventory levels accordingly
  • Coordinates with  Dispensary  Managers  to  order  unregulated  products  (accessories,  equipment, consumption supplies, ) from approved vendors within a designated budget
  • Coordinates with Dispensary Managers for delivery timelines with vendors
  • Verifies the accuracy of incoming and outgoing shipments of regulated and unregulated products
  • Assists CFO and COO on maintaining, updating and training staff on standard operating procedures

EducationExperience Requirements:

  • Bachelors or associates degree in Business, Accounting, or related field preferred
  • CPA preferred
  • Quickbooks experience required
  • 3-5 years professional experience required
  • Experience in the cannabis industry a plus
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check;
  • Must be able to successfully complete a 2-hour online instructional course;
  • Must demonstrate a proficiency for technology;
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule including nights/weekends;
  • Comfortable being under constant video surveillance
