Job Description:

The Finance Director is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day finance and accounting operations and ensuring that there are appropriate systems, procedures and controls in place to support a high-quality finance operation, effective program implementation and the organization’s mission and goals.

Summary of Essential Job Functions:

  • Supervise and oversee the day to day activities of the Finance department
  • Manage and train appropriate staff on all accounting systems
  • Responsible for month end closing, reconciliations and reporting
  • Assist in the coordination and preparation of the financial audit of the organization, including the audit of our 403b plan and the compilation of our annual 990
  • Manage the 403b plan compliance process including periodic testing
  • Work with Program managers to ensure that Finance is aware of all reporting requirements for grants and contracts, and the preparation of any required reports
  • Responsible for preparing internal and external Ad Hoc reports as may be required
  • Provide Program managers monthly Budget to Actual reports, assist them in the review of their budget reports, and in the preparation of their annual Program budgets
  • Under the guidance of the Assistant Controller, coordinate and compile the overall organization budget, including position control
  • Responsible for managing software application procedures
  • Monitor established internal controls to assure proper compliance
  • Recommend changes in financial policies and procedures
  • Along with Assistant Controller, coordinate activities for system implementations or upgrades

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration with a major in accounting
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) desired but not required
  • Seven to ten years’ combined experience with a public accounting firm and/or a non-profit organization
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong technical and professional skills
  • Experience with Fundraising and Financial Accounting systems, such as Blackbaud Raisers Edge, Financial Edge, WorkPlace (Purchasing), and ADP payroll and timekeeping
  • Knowledge of appropriate management and supervisory skills to supervise general accounting staff
