Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced, hands-on accountant to oversee a small team in the role of
controller within a real estate development company and family office. The ideal candidate will
have proven industry experience as a tax accountant, preferably in a senior role. As a strong
communicator and skilled financial analyst, you will make it your mission to streamline our
internal control process, oversee and help prepare our tax returns, and support financial analysis
related to real estate development. You will provide oversight to our accounting team, support
our outside tax preparers, and insure both our real estate ventures and family office practices are
efficient and accurate. You will work closely with the CFO and our partners to help improve our
operational efficiency and aid in our continued growth.

Objectives of this Role:

  • Provide comprehensive tax updates to senior management by evaluating, analyzing, and
    reporting appropriate data and/or scenario analysis
  • Bring basic, pass-through tax returns in-house and away from tax preparers
  •  Support individual, trust, and family office tax planning and compliance at the local, state, and federal levels
  •  Support our real estate development ventures by analyzing costs, tax, or rent projections
  •  Oversee and maintain financial controls and guidelines
  •  Achieve budgeting goals with proper scheduling, analysis, and corrective action including managing outsourced functions
  • Maximize staff efficiency through innovative process development
  •  Help develop and support short and long-term operational strategies


Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

  • Manage and monitor all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate standards
  • Insure timely and accurate filing of individual, trust, or entity tax returns
  • Oversee the collection, tracking, and input of 100+ K-1s
  • Maintain internal control safeguards for the receipt of revenue, costs and both team and organizational budgets and actual expenditures
  • In conjunction with the CFO, establish financial and operating benchmarks, budgets,
    program monitoring, and reporting standards on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
  • Stay informed of current tax developments, legislation, and court rulings
  • Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflow
  • Oversee and support accounting team with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust and productivity
  • Support month-end and year-end close process


Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or related field
  • 7-10+ years of proven accounting experience
  •  5+ years of tax return preparation
  • Specific experience with individual, trust, and partnership returns
  • Robust knowledge of real estate partnerships, K-1s, and real estate acquisition and disposition transactions
  •  Strong understanding of economic and banking processes
  •  Experience with creating financial statements, general ledger functions and the month end/year end close process
  • Excellent communication skills, proactive and comfortable working with all levels in an
  • Highly motivated, organized, and able to work independently.
  •  Familiarity with Sage 300 is a plus
  • CPA highly preferred
