Role description


Turner & Townsend is seeking an experienced Financial Controller, responsible for directing the
accounting policies, procedures, and practices of the USA operations in accordance with Group and
generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Areas of responsibility include: General Accounting,
Billing, Accounts Receivable and Payable, Taxes with significant input in Budgeting and Financial Planning and Banking and Treasury.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer of North America, the Financial Controller is a key role for the
USA business to support anticipated growth for this $135m construction and management consulting
firm focused on three industry segments: real estate, infrastructure, and natural resources.

 

Remit


Duties include providing timely and accurate financial information to the Group and Board of Directors
and all levels of management, managing audit and tax process, managing cash, and ensuring
appropriate systems and controls are in place for reporting and to safeguard company’s assets,
managing and developing accounting staff and developing and assisting in implementing operational
budgets, plans and procedures.


Specifically, the Financial Controller will:


Oversee preparation of timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with Group policy and
GAAP, including reports to Group, management, and board of results against budgets and forecasts.
Organize and supervise the audit process including working with external auditors.
Oversee the tax process including working with external resources on the preparation of all tax
returns and managing appropriate client related tax policies.
Oversee the accounting policies, procedures, and practices for the USA to ensure proper controls and
compliance.
Develop, train, and manage accounting staff and evaluate the structure of the team and plan for
continued improvements in its efficiency and effectiveness, and provide individuals with opportunities
for professional and personal growth.
Develop, discuss, and prepare financial analysis to identify and explain trends and highlight areas of
financial concern or potential improvement, including risk minimization and cost reduction strategies.
Play a significant role in budgeting, forecasting, and reporting on outcomes and variances to assist
the Group, Board, and senior management in executing their responsibilities and to educate
commission managers on financial issues impacting their engagements.
Support improvements for projecting cash flow and appropriate strategies to maximize efficiency of
the balance sheet and cash.
Oversee debt management and collection.
Provide business and strategic advice as member of management team.
Develop relationships with key stakeholders; be approachable and serve as a mentor to the Finance
team and the business on financial issues.

Education and Experience


CPA or international equivalent required
Bachelor’s or advanced degree
10+ years of relevant accounting and management experience through some combination of
corporate and public accounting experience
Experience working internationally, UK preferred or reporting to a UK parent company
Experience working in a professional services or consulting environment is preferred
A plus:
Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 accounting software
