Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs)

We work with a broad-spectrum of clients to help them effectively manage their portfolios and real estate assets. These clients include family offices, institutional investors, foreign entities, and an increasing number of non-traditional real estate businesses using the REIT framework.

Since the 1990s, Real Estate Investment Trusts (“REITs”) have gained considerable traction as an investment vehicle due to their significant tax advantages. With those advantages, however, come complex compliance requirements under Internal Revenue Code Sections 856 and 857. These requirements include, for example, the type of business classification and minimum number of shareholders. In addition, certain quantitative REIT compliance test thresholds must be met.

Real Estate Services is a cornerstone practice at EisnerAmper. Members of our Real Estate Group have years of practical experience in complicated transactions involving audit, assurance, tax, information technology and consulting services.
