Lewis Stark is the Partner-in-Charge of the Royalty Audit and Contract Compliance Group where he specializes in conducting royalty, distribution and profit participation examinations, contract compliance investigations, vendor examinations, financial due diligence and litigation support. His practice encompasses trademark, brand, character and patent licensing as well as vendor, landlord and tenant compliance examinations.
With over 20 years of royalty audit and contract compliance experience, Lewis leads a team of compliance professionals who serve a variety of licensors of intellectual properties such as film and TV studios, brand owners, fashion designers, research organizations, technology and pharmaceutical companies, universities, inventors and software developers. His clients also include law firms, licensing and talent agencies, video game developers, franchisors, producers, directors, entertainers, athletes, landlords and tenants.
In addition to recovering moneys due to clients and preventing future revenue slippage, Lewis also focuses his efforts on protecting clients’ intellectual properties, providing business intelligence and advising clients on enhancing agreements, processes and controls. Lewis also conducts film and television tax incentive audits on behalf of major and independent film and television studios.
Lewis received his B.A. in Economics from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He presents to and writes for professional audiences including the Licensing Industry Merchandisers Association (LIMA), Licensing Executive Society (LES) and Society of Product Licensors Committed to Excellence. Lewis is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA) and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE). He is an active member of several industry organizations including LIMA, LES, the International Trademark Association (INTA), The Copyright Society of the USA (CSUSA) and the Association of Independent Music Publishers (AIMP). He previously served as the East Coast Representative for LIMA and has served on several charitable committees.
