Lewis Stark is the Partner-in-Charge of the Royalty Audit and Contract Compliance Group where he specializes in conducting royalty, distribution and profit participation examinations, contract compliance investigations, vendor examinations, financial due diligence and litigation support. His practice encompasses trademark, brand, character and patent licensing as well as vendor, landlord and tenant compliance examinations.
Lewis leads a team of compliance professionals who represent a variety of licensors of intellectual properties such as movie studios, fashion designers, research organizations, technology and pharmaceutical companies, universities, inventors and software developers. His clients also include licensing and talent agencies, video game developers, franchisors, producers, directors, entertainers, athletes, landlords and tenants.
In addition to recovering moneys due to clients and preventing future revenue slippage, Lewis also focuses his efforts on protecting clients’ intellectual properties and providing business intelligence.
As part of Lewis’ extensive expertise, he also conducts, film and television tax incentive audits on behalf of major and independent film and television studios, and has advised film commissioners of several states in drafting the state’s production incentive rules and regulations.
Lewis received his B.A. from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He presents to and writes for professional audiences including the Licensing Industry Merchandisers Association (LIMA), Licensing Executive Society (LES) and Society of Product Licensors Committed to Excellence. Lewis is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA). He is an active member of several industry organizations including LIMA, LES, the International Trademark Association (INTA), The Copyright Society of the USA (CSUSA) and the Association of Independent Music Publishers (AIMP). He is also a past-East Coast Representative for LIMA and has served on several charitable committees.
